About Christine

Christine Linnehan

Hello! I’m Christine

I have been licensed with the Maine Board of Counseling Professionals since 1993 as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). In 1998, I opened my private practice, Riverview Counseling in Scarborough, Maine, overlooking the Scarborough Marsh. Previously, I worked as an Expressive Therapist and a Group Clinician at The Portsmouth Women’s Center for Mind/Body Wellness and Portsmouth Regional Hospital’s inpatient psychiatric unit and partial hospitalization program for women with a history of trauma.

My focus on grief and bereavement began in 2001 after being trained to be a hospice volunteer for the former Hospice of Maine. Since 2004, I have been a clinical consultant at The Center for Grieving Children (CGC) where I provide support to the staff and volunteers, offer training on child development, and lead parent/caregiver education groups and annual facilitator retreats. My work at CGC inspired me to pursue certification from the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC) as a Fellow in Thanatology (FT), the study of death, dying, and bereavement.

My clinical work is grounded in trauma and bereavement-informed approaches. Drawing from my training as a board-certified dance/movement therapist and certified somatic trauma therapist, I utilize innovative mind/body wellness practices and expressive arts modalities designed to promote resilience and wellbeing. I aim to incorporate the best of what is known from current research into restorative approaches tailored to the interests and needs of each client. I have a special interest in providing bereavement support after a suicide loss and am actively involved in suicide prevention/postvention efforts in Maine as well as nationally.
